November was a quieter month as the days drew in and it got colder. Fortunately it didn’t rain on our Sunday operations so we had a steady trickle of families coming to ride our extensive loop based system with its 15 minute ride for £1.50 a person (children under 2 go free!).
Much of November was tied up with maintenance. Our carriage shed has undergone extensive winter-proofing with the weather- facing wall being prepared for felting. The wrong sort of leaves have been cleared off the tracks, ballast shoulders and drainage areas and Santa’s Grotto dressed with miles of tinsel, fairy lights and Christmas trees, not forgetting the planting of an elves’ forest for their rest and recuperation during the week.
Bookings for our Santa Specials are coming in at a steady rate, a number of which are repeats from last year so we seem to have got the Santa experience about right. Our Santa Specials will be running on the first three Sundays of December, reindeer permitting Tickets are only available from our on-site booking office at Brogdale open every Sunday 11 am- 4.00 pm.
For those who have never taken a Santa Special the day starts with a train ride to a penguin free South Pole followed by a special rail trip to Santa’s Grotto at the North Pole, a meeting with Santa and a small gift for the kids. Please note one of our Santa days combines with Brogdale’s Christmas Fair on the 3rd December. Children are £3-50 and adults £1.50.
Our new website seems to have been a success which is just as well given the amount of time put into its construction by our resident web-site developer.
As ever, new members, especially DIYers, signalmen, guards/drivers are more than welcome to join our Railway Society. If you’d like to see what we offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there.
