November was something of a low key month. With the change in the weather and the shorter days railway traffic eased off. Even though our Sundays have been usually cold and overcast passengers seem to have enjoyed themselves as they went around our almost one mile circuit

Our long term recruitment plans are motoring ahead. How its works is that being a family-type railway a number of grandparents and parents bring their young kids along to ride the rails. In some cases these kind-hearted people then discover their young charges are so taken by the experience they want to join the railway society there and then.  Unfortunately as our operational age limit is 16+ they have a bit of a wait, but their family adults are always welcome to join!

The Railway has now finalised its Christmas arrangements.  Santa’s grotto has been decked out with glitter and twinkle, reindeer sent off on their well earned holidays and presents stacked up. All our festive efforts have been ok’d by a very busy Santa who will be here on the first 3 Sundays of December, these being the 4th, 11th & 18th.   Like last year it’s bookings only. Tickets are selling well and can only be brought from our ticket office open every Sunday. It’s £3.50 for each kid and £1.50 for adults

The Santa Christmas package is a train ride to our South Pole many miles away, then a visit to Santa in his North Pole grotto, maybe a hot drink and mince pie for the adults, and a carefully chosen present for the kid(s). Santa says to make sure everyone wraps up nice and warm as sometimes it can be a bit polar out there

Once December is over the railway closes down for winter maintenance and reopens in March/April (depending on the weather etc). Although our regulars will hardly need reminding in 2017 we will be running each Sunday (usually 11am-4pm), Bank Holidays and the various Brogdale Festivals. Subject to availability in 2017 we can also be booked for birthday parties, weddings and school trips. Details can be found on the home page of our website

Lastly, and as ever, new members, especially DIYers, are more than welcome to join our Railway Society.  If you’d like to see what we can offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there
