October was a busy month. The rainy season returned with over an inch of rain falling in 2 hours on the first Sunday of the month which flooded the depot.  Also returned are the fighting robins which have taken over the depot  and various nearby hedgerows.

Fortunately it didn’t rain properly during October’s Apple Festival. As usual the railway was busy with family rides from 10 in the morning to 5 at night. Everyone seems to have had a good time including our hardworking volunteer staff.

Given our international reputation it was hardly surprising that we have had visitors from all over. During the Apple festival we had local passengers from  Ashford, Blean, Chatham, Canterbury, Herne Bay, Faversham, Sandwich,  Sevenoaks and Whitstable. Other passengers came from South London, Amsterdam,(Holland,) Arcachon (France), Bromley,  Chesterfield, Gateshead, Durban (Sth Africa), Hackney, Halifax (Canada), Ipswich, Luxemburg City (Luxemburg), Madrid (Spain ), Minsk (Belerus), Ontario (Canada), Setubal(?) (Portugal), The Hague (Holland), Wellington (New Zealand), Victoria (Canada), Vazna (Bulgaria) and Utrecht (Holland). No Martians were identified.

During the month we ran a couple of school trips and one kid’s party. Our thoughts however are now turning to Christmas arrangements. Trains to the Father Christmas grotto (located at our North Pole) will be running on the first three Sundays of December, these being the 4th, 11th & 18th. The deal is a ride, a visit to the Grotto, maybe a hot drink and mince pie and a carefully chosen present for the kid(s). Like last year tickets can be purchased in advance from our ticket office during our normal running times. It’s £3.50 for each kid and £1.50 for adults.

Currently we run each Sunday (usually 11am-4pm), Bank Holidays and Brogdale Festivals. Subject to availability we can also be booked for birthday parties, weddings and school trips but that’s more for 2017. Details can be found on the home page of our website.

As ever, new members, especially DIYers, are more than welcome to join our Railway Society.  If you’d like to see what we can offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there.
