August was hot! hot! hot! and had the ground going hard and cracking in the heat. Surprisingly it didn’t rain over the August Bank Holiday weekend which was just as well as it was Brogdale’s annual Cider Festival. Passenger demand was such that in the afternoons we ran two trains with extra coaches  so people didn’t have to wait too long for their trip. A good time seemed to be had by all and we were congratulated for our value-for-money rides and prompt service.

The Cider Festival weekend also saw the first real outing for our new - build 58 Engine modelled on the EWS engine of the same type. 58 was resplendent in the EWS livery of maroon with details picked out with yellow highlights.  She still has some final detailing to do allong with getting a complete once over with the paint brush, but this loco is running just how we wanted.

August had Thursday’s Maintenance Team moving onto refurbishing the main station signal box. Much of the box is going to be reclad, with the remainder of the box already primed and undercoated prior to being finished off in Southern Rail colours in September/October.

Although only August the Railway is planning ahead for its Santa Specials which this year are likely to be running the last couple of Sundays before Christmas itself. Details to follow on our website and in future newsletters.

Currently we run each Sunday (usually 11am-4pm), Bank Holidays and Brogdale Festivals. Subject to availability we can also be booked for birthday parties, weddings and school trips. Details can be found on the home page of our award winning website (see above).

As ever new members, especially DIYers, are more than welcome to join our Railway Society.  If you’d like to see what we can offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there.
