Just a reminder to all our customers that the railway has now opened to the public for the 2013 season. Trains are run every Sunday, the first at 11.00 am and the last around 4.00 pm.

Prices have been held to 2012 levels- £1.50 for adults and kids over 2.

We ran our first party train on the 2nd March- for those who need any reminding we can be booked for parties, weddings and the like at very reasonable rates. Contact Mick on 01795 474211 for details or try the other contacts on this site.

More generally February was a busy month for us as we prepared for the new season. In between various snow-storms and hard frosts we completed the refurbishment of the Ticket Office and Signal Box, both now having been re-roofed. All points and rodding have been greased, signals oiled and track and crossings checked.

One of the projects for the Railway this year is to bring some of our more interesting engines back into service. These will hopefully be locos No 9 (Kirsty) and No 6 (Fran).

Lady Fiona has been working hard pulling our unique ballasting hopper which can ballast a new rail panel in a couple of minutes thanks to its innovative design.

On a more serious note, due to popular demand (by Santa himself) we have been talked into redeveloping his Christmas railway grotto. A new grotto, reindeer stables, elf rest-room and childrens’ present stacking bay are under active consideration.

After much research it appears Mogul the railway cat can be classified as an 0-4-0 but its gauge will vary depending on how much it has eaten.

New volunteer staff are always welcome. We would be particularly interested in trainee drivers, guards, engineers and platform staff. Come down to Brogdale on Wednesdays or Sundays (11-4) and make yourself known . We will show you round and hopefully talk you into joining us!
