July was busy month what with the Sunday Cherry Festival and a couple of children’s’ parties. The Festival saw us running three trains to deal with demand. This involved three drivers, three guards, two staff manning the signal boxes, two in the ticket office and one on the platform. A total of eleven volunteers were required!
The Festival also saw the first public outing of our recently restored ‘Kerr’s’ Valley Pullman coach, the current absence of doors helped to keep our customers well ventilated in the heat
Most of our passengers on the Festival day were locals mainly from the Faversham and Sittingbourne areas as well as Canterbury and Whitstable with a few from South and East London. Visitors from slightly further afield came from Ashford, Bandon, Oregon( USA), Bangkok, Belfast, Benidorm, Chicago, East London (Sth Africa) Folkestone, Hoo, La Rochelle (France) Maidstone, New Ash Green, Niigata (China) and Western –super-Mare
Something else, FMR now has a new Steam Engine Lady Ann, this is our 1st and only 7 ¼” loco, so it will not be seen on FMR Metal. However its owner is taking her to as many 7 ¼” railways around the country as possible to spread the word that we exist
The next Festival to look forward to is at the end of August. This is the ever popular Artisan Cider festival. Details can be found on the Brogdale web site
Although our regulars will hardly need reminding, the Railway runs each Sunday (usually 11am-4pm), Bank Holidays and the various Brogdale Festivals. Subject to availability we can also be booked for birthday parties, weddings and school trips. Details can be found on our current website. Bookings have already started to come in so it might be worth reserving your slot!
Lastly, and as ever, new members, especially DIYers, are more than welcome to join our Railway Society. If you’d like to see what we can offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there. If you do come over best to avoid rainy days!
