January 2018

The Railway is now closed for winter maintenance and should be re-opening first Sunday in March- subject to the weather. It seems likely our 2018 15 minute ride will probably remain fixed at a flat rate £1.50, with kids under 2 still going free. We will also continue to offer school trips and Sunday kids parties but for obvious reasons these need advance booking. Details are on our new website.

Besides the forthcoming Class 08 diesel shunter currently being built off-site, we have gained a Lister engined shunter called “Thumper” from a site in Biddenden which has now been regauged from 10.5” to our 9”. and is currently undergoing trials. The expectation is that “Thumper” will be up and running and pulling passengers during the Spring.

Trackside maintenance has mainly involved clearing winter storm debris and tidying up the ballast. The future of the yard gate is under review.

Our main engines are being maintained in time for the new season. Work on the Class 31 and 58 has been completed leaving the Class 20 to be finished off

As ever, new members, especially DIYers, signalmen, guards/drivers are more than welcome to join our Railway Society. If you’d like to see what we offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and railway estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there. Free tea can be arranged as an inducement
