December saw the Railway visited by Santa who kindly stayed on to do the honours for three Sundays in a row. Although festive snow turned to drizzle, showers and proper rain Santa sat comfortably in his heated grotto offering festive cheer and goodwill and a present to all the children who took the trip. Even with the usual British weather it seemed everyone had a good time although the drivers, guards, station crew and Santa’s elf got progressively wetter through the days!
As from this month the Railway is now closed for winter maintenance and should be re-opening first Sunday in March- subject to the weather. It seems likely that our 15 minute rides will remain fixed at a flat rate £1.50, with kids under 2 still going free.
2018 should see the introduction of a new engine (a Class 08 diesel shunter currently being built off-site) as well as the return of a few very special engines. The usual round of sleeper replacement, trackside maintenance, painting, fixing broken things and thinking about potential track extensions continue as normal.
As ever, new members, especially DIYers, signalmen, guards/drivers are more than welcome to join our Railway Society. If you’d like to see what we offer then contact us via our website to arrange a tour of the establishment and railway estate- or just visit on a Sunday and take it from there. Free tea can be arranged as an inducement.
