April 2014

As Easter Bank Holidays go it was 50/50. That is, 50% rain and 50% sun.  Anyhow thanks to all those who came and visited us and tried out the new luxury first class passenger bendy bus carriages. The apple, cherry and plum blossoms are now out which makes for a scenic ride. Not forgetting the various teddy bears, tigers, giraffes and dolphins hidden alongside the track for the kids to spot

As we noted in March’s newsletter we have become a definite Brogdale fixture for tourists and local families alike. Over the Bank Holiday we had visitors from France, Holland, Oxford, Lewisham, Forest Hill, Catford  and  more locally Canterbury and Dover and of course Faversham. Our fame seems to be spreading!

Our new steam-engine is still being fitted out (in Plymouth) and as ever we hope it will be delivered for testing sometime this year. Check our web-site for updates

‘Mogul’ the weekend railway cat has returned from his short holiday. When not eating he now sleeps on the ticket office counter during opening hours (11 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon every Sunday, and much the same for Bank Holidays and Brogdale festivals)

We have been experimenting with concrete sleepers as an alternative to the wooden ones we use at present. If successful replacement will be a long term project

Our Class 20 Lady Fiona has been taken out of service for a major refit and we plan to have it running again during the summer

There are no increases in fares this year. So the cost of a return on weekends and Bank Holidays is a straight £1-50 (children under 2 go free) but at festivals we only charge a flat rate of £1-00 per passenger (again under 2’s  go free)

We are still taking 2014 party bookings for anyone who wants to have a railway based wedding reception or kids’ railway themed party.  Contact Mick 01795 474211 or try our website. As ever our rates are very reasonable as we are a non-profit making society

new volunteer staff are always welcome to join our Railway Society.  If you visit us at Brogdale on most Tuesdays or Wednesdays or Sundays (11am-4pm) we’ll show you round and hopefully talk you into joining us!
